5 19:30 "Stories With Soul" / Meetings with Remarkable Books
Jason Beacon will take us on the Sufi journeys which informed his first novel.  Inspired by Gurdjieff and armed with only a hunch and the dubious tales of a man over half a century deceased, in 2003 he bought a one-way ticket to Uzbekistan to see if he could pick up Gurdjieff's trail. Perhaps the controversial mystic's teachers were still there? He will read (very short) selections from his novel and from authors attached to the independent publishing company he created - Guerilla Books. Set up to publish stories that act as a bridge - between cultures, peoples, even within our selves - it asks how can we reconcile an inner spiritual calling and 'the world'?

In between his readings and stories, we'd like to create a dialogue with the audience where you can offer a poem, music, or your own anecdote inspired by the moment.
