Membership Packages
The Education department has helped bring poetry to life in schools for over thirty years.
Schools membership
£30 for Primary Schools (1 year) or £70 (3 years)
£50 for Secondary Schools (1 year) or £120 (3 years)
£50 for libraries and other institutions (1 year)
Benefits of our school membership include:
- access to our "Poets in Schools" consultancy service offering advice about working with poets in education, and access to our nationwide network of experienced poets (normally £25 per use). Our poets work effectively in many contexts, whether in a school, a university, a library or a youth centre, and they can tailor workshops, readings and performances to suit any topic. (Please note: the poet will still have to be paid - it is our consultancy fee that will be waived for members. For further information, please email).
- a 10% discount on Poetryclass, our unique INSET training days with professional poets, which aims to take the fear out of teaching poetry.
- free poetry anthologies such as the TES Book of Young Poets (for Primary Schools) and Poems of the Decade (for Secondary Schools), amongst other poetry collections.
- both primary and secondary schools receive four copies of Poetry News, our quarterly membership newsletter which updates everyone on what is currently happening in the poetry world, with advice on reading and writing poetry, as well as a section devoted to education.
- secondary schools also receive four copies of Poetry Review, Britain's leading poetry magazine, which brings together both new and established contemporary poets, alongside reviews and essays.
- three sets of six Poems on the Underground posters, as displayed on the London Underground.
Resources
To complement classroom teaching, the department has produced an exciting range of resources, developed alongside experts in the field of poetry teaching.
These include:
- The Poetry Book for Primary Schools (ed. Anthony Wilson & Sian Hughes)
- Jumpstart Poetry in the Secondary School (ed. Cliff Yates)
- an attractive range of poster sets with teachers notes.

The Education department also plays a key role in organising National Poetry Day, which takes place on the first Thursday of October every year. The Foyle Young Poets of the Year award ceremony takes place on National Poetry Day, and all over the country, schools and libraries will be marking the occasion with special events.
