Poetry Landmarks

Poetry Laboratory

(Library)

Details:

nominated by: Wendy Molyneux

Warrington Library, Museum and Archives Service will be using National Poetry Day’s theme of the Future to explore the power of poetry through an exciting new reader development project, the Poetry Laboratory. This will help to build community identity as members of the public are asked to submit a poem to Warrington Libraries reflecting how they see Warrington in the Future.
The project also aims to support learning, reading and literacy by bringing together young men from Thorncross Young Offenders Institution, pupils from Birchwood Community High School and Warrington Libraries’ own poetry reading group. Manchester poet, Mike Garry, has been commissioned to nurture new and existing poets by leading workshops that will promote awareness and enjoyment of poetry and encourage library use.

We are confident that this dynamic project will cultivate creative partnerships through the sharing and enjoyment of poetry and inspire a legacy of ideas for the Future.
