Poetry Landmarks

East Coker

(Associated Place)

Details:

East Coker, the subject of one of Eliot's "Four Quartets", is the birthplace of his ancestors. His heart is buried at the Parish Church. The village is remarkably unchanged: much as described in the poem, and very beautiful. It has a flourishing local history society which traces old East Coker families.
