Arts Council, West Midlands supports individual poets and poetry organisations at work through its national support programme called 'Grants for the Arts.' Current poetry based activity which Arts Council West Midlands supports includes: Ledbury Poetry Festival in Herefordshire (find out more on: www.poetry-festival.com), ‘Poetry On Loan’ - a unique partnership of 23 regional public libraries committed to doing more for poetry readers and writers (find out more on: www.poetryonloan.org.uk), Raw Edge magazine (find out more on: www.poetrymagazines.org.uk). Also in October former poet laureate of Birmingham, Roshan Doug, takes up residency at University of Central England. Special for National Poetry Day, with support from Arts Council West Midlands, the Birmingham Book Festival and City Library service announce the new Poet Laureate for Birmingham for 2003/04.
