The Seamus Heaney Centre for Poetry

(Poetry Organisation)

The new Seamus Heaney Centre for Poetry is designed to celebrate, and to build upon, Seamus Heaney’s enormous contribution to contemporary poetry, as well as the achievements of poets from Northern Ireland more generally. The centre will house an extensive library of contemporary poetry volumes and journals, which will be open to the public. It will host regular creative writing workshops, a fortnightly poetry reading group, and an ongoing series of readings and lectures by visiting poets and critics from all over the world. The SHC will be chaired by the eminent poet, Ciaran Carson. Other poets resident within the centre include Medbh McGuckian and Sinead Morrissey. The opening of the Seamus Heaney Centre for Poetry (in October 2003)will be one of the most exciting developments in the UK and Irish poetry worlds.
