Poetry Landmarks

(Poetry Organisation)

Driftwood is one of the most active poetry organisations in Merseyside. First registered as a poetry publishing press in the 1970s, it began by publishing booklets by (then) new and neglected poets. It has recently been revived to include promotions (poetry readings at The Freshfield Hotel) and has just announced its new programme of events The next reading at THE LEFT BANK in Formby, Merseyside is by Matthew Sweeney (Thursday 13th October 2005 - 8pm). After that we've lined up:
Matt Simpson - 10 November 2005.
Hugo Williams - 8 December 2005.
Carole Satyamurti - 12 January 2006.
U A Fanthorpe - 9 March 2006.
The organisation also produces spoken word CDs by many of the poets whose work is published in its book series.
Driftwood works closely with Sefton Arts Development and is involved in its annual poetry competition and in many of the promotions, including the recent visits/readings in Southport and Crosby, Merseyside by Andrew Motion, Brendan Kennelly, Paul Durcan, U A Fanthorpe, John Cooper Clarke, (the late) Miroslav Holub, etc.
