Poetry Landmarks

(Poetry Festival)

Poetry-next-the-Sea is a well-established, much-loved, annual poetry festival. We bring together the best of emerging talent alongside established writers in the uniquely intimate and charming atmosphere of Wells-next-the-Sea. Amongst those who have graced our stage during the last fourteen years are: Fleur Adcock, Gillian Clarke, David Constantine, Grey Gowrie, Sophie Hannah, Matthew Hollis, Kathleen Jamie, P.J. Kavanagh, Mimi Khalvati, Hugh Lupton, Esther Morgan, Andrew Motion, Jacob Polley, Jo Shapcott, Penelope Shuttle, Pauline Stainer, Jon Stallworthy, Michael Symmons Roberts, George Szirtes, Hugo Williams and Kit Wright. We have a thriving, committed audience and also feature an education programme which brings poets into local schools.

The festival usually takes place over the first full weekend following the May Day bank holiday.
