Poetry Landmarks

NorthCourt Manor

This ancient manor house with its beautiful garden has inspired many writers and artists including the poet Swinburne who often stayed here. Now, writing weekends are run here, Arvon style, for keen young writers; an opportunity to work alongside professional writers ( for example, Philip Gross, Mimi Khalvati, Jane Draycott) and artists intensively for two days. Each year a publication, often with a strong cross arts emphasis,(poetry and artwork) is produced. These weekends are organised by Literature Development Worker and Writer in Healthcare, lydia Fulleylove. Lydia also runs poetry days to refresh and restore teachers' creative energies, writing days for able writers in primary schools and independent writing days for adults and for Healing Arts clients. Northcourt is, as one young writer commented, 'A world of its own, a writer's paradise.'
