Poetry Landmarks

The Liverpool Sound

(Associated Place)

nominated by: Joan Bakewell

It marked the coming together in the 1960s of 3 Liverpool poets; Brian Patten, Adrian Henri and Roger McGough. They spoke with highly individual voices from within a culture - 1960s Liverpool - that was revitalising the country's spirit with youthful energy, humour and defiance. They made a difference.
