Hardy's cottage

(Associated Place)

Thomas Hardy was born in 1840 in this small thatched cottage. It was built by his grandfather in 1800. Hardy left at the age of 22 and returned 5 years later, living in the cottage until 1874. "Under The Greenwood Tree" describes the cottage in detail. Hardy continued to visit the cottage until 1926.
