Poetry Landmarks

East Coker Poetry Group

(Poetry Organisation)

nominated by: Sue McKerracher

The village of East Coker, home to T S Eliot's ancestors, was immortalised in his Four Quartets and the poet's ashes are buried here in the churchyard of St Michael's. This heritage prompted the formation of the East Coker Poetry Group, meeting six times a year to share favourite verse in the informal, relaxed environment of the village inn, the Helyar Arms.
