Beverley Literature Festival, 5-15 October

Beverley Literature Festival places poetry at the heart of its programme. We have performances, readings and lots of opportunities to discussing the art of reading poetry. This year's poetry highlights include: Sharon Olds, Jean Sprackland, Robin Robertson, Paul Farley, Patrick McGuinness, Elizabeth Barrett accompanied on the Viola by Robin Ireland (Lindsay Quartet), Patrick Lane, Peter and Ann Sansom, John Hartley Williams and By Heart: Dutch Poetry in Translation.

For National Poetry Day, we have a performance of the great Sumerian Epic Poem Gilgamesh by one of this country's foremost storytellers, Ben Haggarty. He'll be accompanied on the Ney by Greek percussionist Manya Maratou.
