Poetry Landmarks

The Poetry House, St Andrews

The Poetry House is in a fine stone building on the sea, facing St Andrews Castle and looking over the mouth of the Tay estuary. It is based in the School of English at the University of St Andrews, and promotes a programme of public readings and events with Scottish and international poets throughout the year. The Poetry House is also home to a leading MLitt in Creative Writing, and publishes Scores, The Red Wheelbarrow and the international poetry magazine Verse. It will soon go online with its Virtual Poetry House website, with an authoritative selection of poetry links, features and reviews. Some of Scotlandís major poets work at the Poetry House, including John Burnside, Robert Crawford, Douglas Dunn, Kathleen Jamie and Don Paterson; the School of English staff have research interests from Old English to contemporary poetry.
