(Associated Place)

nominated by: Patrick Ingram

Child-Friendly Landmark

Here is the spot at which Edward Thomas brought to a close his book 'In Pursuit of Spring', the starting point for his poetry. It is a place with views in a number of directions, into different worlds, back to London, further west, across to Wales. To climb the steep road up to the sign post at the top is to to feel his thrill at realising the beginning of his own possibilities.
